---------> * Wanted: moderators!
We are in need of more moderators, since Elfwood is in constant growth.

We're currently looking for moderators for all the areas.

Requirements:

  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must have a published account that have been published for at least 4 months.
  • You must have a good record, meaning no major rejections in the past year, for example for copying or repeated rejections.
  • You must be willing to give at least 1-2 hours a week to moderating.
  • You must have a good understanding of the rules.

  • If you have the requirements, then please proceed in reading the rest and volunteer.

    You're welcome to volunteer for more than 1 area. We will put up a note when we have enough volunteers, and all that have volunteered will hear back from us, but it might take a little while, so please be patient.

    For FanQuarter: We prefer volunteers that are familiar with a number of anime and/or American comics. We are currently looking for volunteers who know their American comics like Marvel and others, but we also need people who know their Dragon Ball, Inuyasha, Yu-Gi-Oh, Fushigi Yuugi, Kenshin, Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto, Gundam, Hellsing, Sailor Moon and others.

    To contact us please go to the Contact page and choose "Volunteering" from the drop-down box and make sure you put which area or areas you are volunteering for in the subject line, like "FanQuarter mod", "Wyverns mod" or "SF&F mod". If you want to volunteer for more than 1 area, just list them both like "FanQuarter and SF&F mod".   [-->Discuss Here!]

    ---------> * Moderators back in working mode...
    After some testing the new system with all new technology as well as the new simplified/updated rules, is now ready to accept new exciting material to Elfwood. The moderators have started to work through the queue of unpublished items.
    The "ticket" system is gone, and the "top of the queue" is now calculated from a mix of:
    - Time of last upload.
    - How active you are at Elfwood - if you log on and use Elfwood frequently, you're up on the list...
    - We prioritize our Patrons, of course.

    The new "Other Works" tab will hold just about anything, so if you expect only SciFi/Fantasy, stick to the Artwork tab. Howver, I personally think its very exciting to see a much broader range of material at Elfwood.
    The Wyvern's Library queue is still on hold, we have to test the HTML/Illustrations combo a bit more carefully before we're publishing any fiction; so expect some more day(s) for that...   [-->Discuss Here!]

    ---------> * Elfwood Rules Simplified and Revised
    I am very happy and proud to announce that the Elfwood rules has been revised in an effort to make them simpler, much more open and easier to understand.
    In response to feedback and criticism from our members, me and a selected team of experienced Elfwood moderators formed a task team to cut down, simplify and revise our rules. The work has been going on for a couple of weeks now, and I would like to take the time to thank everyone involved, and especially Monica!
    Many of our rules were written in the old and dark ages, and were relevant and meaningful back then. However, as time goes by, we realized that a lot of them were unnecessary or just made life harder for our members. The new rules have been cut down to a minimum, and are much more open and allowing.
    The new rules are in effect from today, May 11th. They have replaced the old ones, and can be found under the "Rules" drop down menu at Elfwood.
    An important aspect of the new rules set is the introduction of an "Other Works" tab for Elfwood user accounts. Under that tab, everything that isn't within genre for the area will be placed by the moderators. This could include anything from pictures of your dog, to too-low-quality stuff. In practice, this means that the moderators will only reject extreme violence, porn and stolen/illegal material - everything can end up under the "other works" tab if it is out of genre.
    The moderation process will also be changed, as the tickets are gone. The old ticket system will be replaced by a new moderation queue, where all uploaded material ends up automatically without the need of manually submitting any tickets. This means that if you upload something new, all you need to do is to fix the "issues" with the items you've uploaded (i.e. writing descriptions and classifying the work into categories), and after that you just need to wait for a moderator to look at your material.   [-->Discuss Here!]

    --------->Sun May 3 13:03:07 2009
    ---------> * Uploads open again
    After some weeks of intense programming, I am proud to announce that uploads are now open again to the public. So - What's new? Well, first off, the entire "base" system has been replaced with a new modern approach. This doesn't tell you much I assume, but doing this big step opens up for new features and functions later on; and makes Elfwood much more dynamic and easier to maintain for me. As for functions for you members, the new Upload feature has: - Easier to use user interface (I hope!) - Support for more image formats. - Automatic rescaling of too big stuff. - No more "extranet" - meaning all uploads are done on the main site. - No more "tickets" - see below. - Easier handling of your material directly on your page - what you see is what you get. So, what's with the tickets? For those of you who have no idea what an Elfwood Ticket is...err, was, it was a way to organize and queue the updates at Elfwood. You had to press a button to get updates done, you got a ticket number, and the moderators looked it all through. In the new system, this will be more automatic, and in the background. Once you've uploaded whatever you want to go on the main site, moderators will eventually look it through. This may take some days (expect some more now after this long downtime of the upload function). A replacement for the ticket/moderation process is STILL under development so anything you upload NOW will sit on your account for a while before we can process it. My goal with all this is to make Elfwood easier, funnier and a more enjoyable experience for visitors and members alike. Please, I know, there might still be a lot of problems/bugs around, feel free to report them to us and we will fix them as soon as its possible.   [-->Discuss Here!]

    ---------> * 13th birthday!
    Founded the first of May 1996, It is Elfwood's 13th birthday today! Horray! Work on the new upload and management code is going really well, but I've decided to replace much of the old extranet code by new source code, and the whole task turned out to be more massive than I could have anticipated.   [-->Discuss Here!]

    --------->Thu Apr 23 21:34:23 2009
    ---------> * Older Internet Explorers
    I've improved support for older versions of the Internet Explorer browser at Elfwood. I just wish everyone could upgrade their explorers, but I know its out of control for many users (public computer, computer at job, dad's PC, etc). Anyway, some patch for PNG support as well as replacement GIF's has been added, and the side "jump up and down" problem is fixed too...  [-->Discuss Here!]

    --------->Fri Apr 17 15:55:23 2009
    ---------> * New Elfwood Style
    As you've probably noticed if you have visited Elfwood before, the site is now launched with a new look and feel and several important improvements. Please be aware that this is still ongoing work, and the site will continue to improve the new few weeks. The Main focus of the redesign has been to make Elfwood easier to navigate and use, with some new features to help you out. We apologize for all the remaining little glitches at the site, and we will continue to fix and work on the site to remove all problems. Currently, the upload function is also closed, this is mainly due to the fact that the main parts of the Elfwood code has been replaced by a new modern and database driven foundation, and the Extranet and Ticket system has not yet been ported/changed. Expect uploads to open again in early May; sorry for keeping you waiting.   [-->Discuss Here!]
