SciFi and Fantasy Art: Ghost Story

...Maesilia watched the young man reading the tome with horrified fascination. At last here they were, the source of her family’s vow, their obsession.... This is an illustration for David Cornford's upcoming novel.

Hey, that's cool. I have photoshop and don't even know how to do layers because I only use it to stitch stuff together, crop, fix the contrast, etc. Everything is a learning process.

1 Eden Celeste replies: "If you look in the "Window" dropdown there should be an item called "layers" that you can check. You can create a new layer from that, copy your "background" (the bottom layer) or whatever else. Layers are also hugely helpful for doing the things you mentioned as well. There are lots of fantastic tutorials on using Photoshop for art that I would highly suggest! I use the program for both my digital work as well as prep work for my acrylic and oil paintings."

I like how you've made her really look ethereal, that's cool. I'm not an artist so I know nothing about whether that's hard or not, but it looks hard and it looks cool. Good job, and congrats on the mod's!

:-) Eden Celeste replies: "Thank you very much! I was surprised and happy to see that I received a mod's choice!"

That's the most excellent work i've ever seen done with expressions in a painting!! Perfect ^_^ congrats!!

:-) Eden Celeste replies: "Thank you! Expressions are very important to me."

What a gorgeous painting! It's only a shame that we can't see a bigger version. Nice work on making the ghost transparent; I'd assume it'd be tricky.

:-) Eden Celeste replies: "Thank you for the compliments! Creating the ghost would be *very* tricky with traditional paints, however with Photoshop it's very easy - I simply painted the girl on her own layer and then made that layer slightly transparent. Of course maybe I shouldn't have told you publicly because now everyone will realize that the "hard" part was easy! The hard part for me was creating the appropriate lighting in the piece."

Interesting, I like the expressions. They are very well done. And the anatomy is good. Well deserving of Mod's Choice!

Wonderful ghost.
It´s hard to make things transparant but I think you really master that technique.
